From the Warehouse Floor to the Showroom Floor: My Journey into Car Sales

Kimberly Ramirez's Blog | From the Warehouse Floor to the Showroom Floor: My Journey into Car Sales

We’ve all had those moments where we look around and realize we’re ready for more. For a long time, my "more" was just trying to get through the next shift. I used to work as a janitor at an Amazon warehouse—a job that was steady, but it wasn't where I saw myself staying forever. I knew I wanted a career that challenged me, allowed me to connect with people, and gave me the room to grow.
That’s when I decided to take a massive leap of faith and transition into automotive sales.
Starting from Square One
I’ll be the first to admit: when I walked into the dealership on my first day, I didn’t know the first thing about selling cars. I wasn't an expert on torque, trim levels, or financing. All I knew was that I wanted to work hard and I was willing to learn.
The transition wasn't about knowing everything on day one; it was about learning along the way. Every test drive, every customer question, and every conversation with my teammates became a lesson. I started diving into the details—learning why a 5.0L engine is a beast on the road or why the tech in a new SUV is a game-changer for families.
Why I’m Loving the Shift
The best part of this job isn't just the cars—it’s the people. Going from a role where I was mostly behind the scenes to one where I’m helping someone make one of the biggest purchases of their life is incredibly rewarding. There is a specific kind of adrenaline that comes with closing a deal and seeing a customer drive off the lot with a smile.
I’ve realized that sales isn't just about "selling"; it’s about solving problems and building trust. I’m truly liking the hustle and the constant growth that this industry demands.
A Message to Those Standing at the Edge
If you’re reading this and you feel stuck in a routine or a job that doesn't spark any excitement, here is my advice: Step out and try something new.
It is okay to be the person in the room who knows the least. It’s okay to start over in a field where you have zero experience. Comfort is the enemy of progress, and the most rewarding things in my life have happened right outside of my comfort zone. You don’t need to see the whole staircase to take the first step—you just need the drive to keep climbing.
If I can go from the warehouse to the showroom, you can make your move too.
